PRIDE News: LA Pride, Trans Graduate, Anti-Drag Law Cancels Florida Pride

LA Pride issued a statement condemning the LA Dodgers’ decision to uninvite the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence from the organization’s annual Pride Night. LA Pride has been a longstanding partner with the Dodgers, but removed their participation in the event after the Dodgers caved to pressure from conservative groups and the Catholic League.

A trans girl graduating from high school in Mississippi is not being allowed to wear a dress to her graduation ceremony. The Harrison County School superintendent allegedly said she needs to wear “pants, socks, and shoes like a boy” according to a Federal lawsuit filed by the girl’s parents against the district. She had worn dresses to class and other events like prom prior to this.

Anti-drag laws are already changing the face of Pride in Florida. Tampa Pride has announced they are canceling their “PRIDE ON THE RIVER” event this year because of uncertainty that they can properly prevent anyone under 18 from seeing drag performers in a public area. To protect surrounding businesses that could lose their licenses, Tampa Pride canceled the event.
