Did Mac Miller's Death Cause Ariana Grande's Split From Pete Davidson?

New details regarding Ariana Grande's breakup and canceled engagement from Pete Davidson suggest Mac Miller's death may have been a factor.

On Sunday (October 14), TMZ broke the blindsiding report of the “God is a Woman” star’s sudden split from the Saturday Night Live comedian, to whom she’d been engaged to marry since June. The initial story indicates Davidson and Grande had come to the realization that they’re just not ready to take their relationship to the next level at this time, though it is still a possibility the couple may rekindle their romance in the future.

Now, sources reveal the Sweetener singer has been “in an incredibly dark place” ever since her ex-boyfriend’s suspected overdose in September, implying Miller’s death still has her in shambles. Grande ended her two-year relationship with the “Self Care” emcee back in May, citing his substance abuse woes as the reason for their breakup.

Grande later mourned her ex-boyfriend's loss on social media. “Although the two ended their relationship, Ariana always shared a deep connection with Mac and wanted nothing but the best for him," a source told Entertainment Tonight. "Ariana is very upset."

The 25-year-old subsequently began dating Davidson and became engaged in less than a month’s time. Sources tell TMZ the tragedy hasn't allowed her to be fully invested in her new relationship, which Grande realizes now was rushed too fast.

“It was way too much too soon,” a source told PEOPLE of their split. “It’s not shocking to anyone.”

Grande remains active on social media, though Davidson has since deactivated his social accounts. Neither party has yet to issue a statement.
