Is BTS Going to Win Time's Person of the Year?

TIME's Person of the Year online reader's poll has closed, and BTS is the winner.

The South Korean group received 9% of total votes, outpacing Planet Earth by a slim .12% margin and beating out world leaders, politicians, and influential artists including Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Donald Glover, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Kanye West, and Cardi B.

The Thai cave divers came in third place, followed by South Korean president Moon Jae-In; undocumented children; former First Lady Michelle Obama; Mohammed Bin Salman, the controversial crown prince of Saudi Arabia who was allegedly involvement in the murder of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi; Brazil’s new president Jair Bolsonaro; Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh sexual assault accuser Doctor Christine Blasey Ford, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Every year, TIME selects the person — or group of people — who had the greatest impact in the news and the world, for better or worse. Though the reader's poll shows insight into who the general public believes was the most influential in the past 12 months, the magazine's editors have final say on the Person of the Year.

Will the k-pop's seven members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook — win? We'll find out on December 11th, when TIME announces its 2018 Person of the Year.
