Troye Sivan is getting real with himself on his brand new single, âTake Yourself Home,â released Wednesday (April 1).Â
The new song comes almost two weeks after the singer let fans know on social media that he's decided he wants to drop some new music. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait very long!
Sivan has been pretty quiet on the music front as of late. âTake Yourself Homeâ is the first offering of new music from the 24-year-old after he's been featured on songs with the likes of LAUV and Charli XCX and his sophomore album, Bloom, was released in 2018.
Upon its release, Sivan took to social media to discuss the inspiration behind the song.Â
He said:
This was a really scary moment for me - being this honest w myself about my happiness and my life and the way all the pieces fit together, or donât just like a moment of dude..what r u doing. this isnât working anymore. go home. go be w ur family. dance. write music. be w ur friends who have known u since u were 2. Reevaluate. Naturally we wrote a sad dance track w a housey outro.
This is evident in the song's chorus where he sings: I'm tired of the city, scream if you're with me/ If I'm gonna die, let's dieâ somewhereâ pretty, ah, ah-ah/ Sadâ in the summer, city needs aâ mother/ If I'm gonna waste my time then it's time toâgo/ Takeâyourselfâhome.
On Twitter, Sivan revealed that âTake Yourself Homeâ is âlike the older, wiser, more jaded sisterâ of his 2015 song "Suburbiaâ which also references his hometown.
Along with the song, he dropped a lyric video and new merchandise. He previously reached out to fans online looking for freelance artists to design the merch where sales will benefit COVID-19 relief. He shared on Instagram that he wanted to use money that would otherwise go to a music video to be given to these artists instead!
