Kimberly Van Der Beek is speaking out on the grief of losing her husband James Van Der Beek, three months after his death.

On Tuesday (May 12), Kimberly shared an emotional life update on Instagram marking three months since James passed away at 48 following a cancer battle, penning a reflective message about their family's new "reality" alongside photos of the Dawson's Creek alum with their children. The couple shared six children: Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, Joshua and Jeremiah.

"To say I'm heartbroken is a severe understatement. Words just don't capture what grief is," she wrote. "The comforts of shock have worn off. The reality is settling in... and I miss him. We all miss him. Yet, there is a different kind of magic in the air. I feel him. I know him more deeply. My conscious connection to God has deepened. The veils of the universe have thinned. And I trust that this is the path me and my family have always been intended to walk."

Kimberly also thanked fans and friends for the "tremendous" love and support sent their family's way following her husband's death.

"The outpouring of support has been tremendous. It's held our family in the most beautiful of ways," she said. "You all went absolutely above and beyond anything I could have ever expected in supporting us and honoring James. I am deeply grateful. There is so much more to share here. And in time - I will."

On February 11, the Varsity Blues star's family confirmed in a statement on Instagram that he had "passed peacefully." Van Der Beek was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in August 2023 and shared his diagnosis publicly in November 2024.

"He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace," the statement read. "There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend."
