December 1 is commemorated each year as World AIDS Day. A day to remember, reflect, and regroup as we fight one pandemic during another.
Dr. Laura Cheever is Physician and Associate Administrator for the HIV/AIDS Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration. She helps to administer the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program that provides care to people who don't have insurance and are infected with HIV. For 30 years, the Ryan White Program has funded grants to cities, counties, states and local community-based organizations to provide a comprehensive system of HIV primary medica care.
I had a chance to speak with Dr. Cheever today about the significance of World AIDS Day to the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, the new promising data that shows viral suppression at record lows and what HRSA's role is in the Ending The HIV Epidemic initiative.
