Michael Sam is a trailblazer on the field. He came out to his friends, family and teammates while playing college football for the Missouri Tigers. His career was looking great as he became a seventh-round draft pick by the St. Louis Rams in 2014 before being ultimately cut during the final preseason roster review. He was picked up for the practice squad on the Dallas Cowboys before ultimately signing with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League.
Michael paved a massive path becoming the first openly gay football players to be drafted in the NFL. It drew a lot of attention to Michael and some of that attention would later cause some strife he would need to work through in his life.
I caught up with Michael to talk about what's next in his life, what he wants to see from athletics in America and how he would like to be an inspiration to others. He has matured since his NFL run, and he brings that experience to the stage for Unleashed LGBTQ, March 25-27. Click below to give a listen to my conversation with Michael.
