On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Education issued new guidance announcing the rollback of Obama-era legislation that said transgender students should be able to use the public school bathrooms and locker rooms of the gender that matches how they identify.
President Trump's administration is now leaving it up to states and local school districts to determine themselves if federal sex discrimination laws apply to gender identity.
The letter rescinding guidance was sent to schools across the country on Wednesday saying that the earlier order from the Obama administrations caused lawsuits and confusion.
