Alabama’s Republican governor has deemed a Teacher Manual in the state as “woke” because it addressed structural racism and encouraged the respect of LGBTQ students. The official responsible for the manual was asked to resign by Governor Kay Ivey after receiving a complaint about the contents from a presumed constituent.
Florida Republican Representative Jeff Holcomb openly said that the GOP hates LGBTQ+ people. In a floor speech, he said “Our terrorist enemies hate homosexuals more than we do” while equating his past military experience about “fair treatment to all” appearing to applaud that terrorist organizations kill LGBTQ+ people. Many of his fellow lawmakers gasped audibly at the remarks.
A new report from the CDC shows that about a quarter of high school teens ages 14-18 identify as LGBTQ. This report supports earlier, similar findings from a Gallup poll released in February. The report includes those who also said they were unsure about their sexuality.
