Jessica Simpson is revealing where she and her estranged husband Eric Johnson stand after their split.
According to the "I Wanna Love You Forever" singer, the former couple may have chosen to go their separate ways after 10 years of marriage, but that doesn't mean they are totally out of each other's lives. While speaking to People about her song "Use My Heart Against Me," the first single from her upcoming EP Nashville Canyon: Part 1 that drops this week, Simpson explained how getting back into the studio and creating new music helped her find her voice and learn to heal from heartache.
"I've grown up so much. I can handle so much," she said. "Maybe I'm just meant to love a lot of people in my life."
That sentiment seemingly extends to her ex, with whom she shares three children: daughters Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, 5, and son Ace, 11.
"I don't know why my heart gets tossed around but I'm one of the lucky ones," she said. "At least I have my children and I still have Eric. He's still very much a part of my life and will always be."
Simpson confirmed in a statement to People on January 13 that she and Johnson had separated after a decade of marriage and were "navigating a painful situation" as they continued to co-parent their kids.
"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," she said. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."
Nashville Canyon: Part 1 drops March 21.
