It was only a matter of time before Laufey was back with new enchanting music.
On Friday (August 22), the Icelandic-Chinese singer dropped her third studio album A Matter of Time, a follow-up to 2023's Bewitched and one that highlights her unique vocals and jazzy sound as she encapsulates the vulnerability of "real love."
"I'm constantly thinking about classical and jazz, how to properly preserve them and pay homage," she said in a press release, adding, "I just wanted to let my heart wander."
To assist her on the journey, Laufey, pronounced lay-vay, enlisted the help of co-producers Spencer Stewart and Aaron Dessner. She previously worked with Stewart on Bewitched and her debut album Everything I Know About Love. She explained what sets this album apart from music of the past, noting that the A Matter of Time often explores "heavier themes."
"People expect a pretty façade of girly clothes, fantastical stories, and romantic music," she said. "This time, I was interested in seeing how I could draw out the most flawed parts of myself and look at them directly in the mirror."
Here is the tracklist of A Matter of Time:
- Clockwork
- Lover Girl
- Snow White
- Castle in Hollywood
- Carousel
- Silver Lining
- Too Little, Too Late
- Cuckoo Ballet (Interlude)
- Forget-Me-Not
