Mariah Carey Admits Having Bipolar Disorder

In a new interview for People magazine, Mariah Carey has revealed that she's been fighting a battle with bipolar disorder for over 17 years.  Carey says she was first diagnosed in 2001 and she's now learning to deal with the issue. "Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me," admitted Carey. "I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love-writing songs and making music. "

In the interview Carey explains that at first she thought she had "severe sleep disorder" but was constantly working. Then she'd hit a wall and would be depressed and feel lonely, sad, and guilty for not doing what needed to be done for her career.  Mariah takes medication for symptoms of bipolar II disorder and says, she's in a good place now and is comfortable with her disorder. Plus, she's back in the studio working on music.
